Web Desk for India Today On his Test debut, Australian spinner Todd Murphy impressed, taking 7 wickets in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy match at Nagpur's VCA Stadium. Murphy also made history by taking five wickets on his Test debut, becoming the youngest Australian to do so.
The second-best numbers recorded by an Australian were by Murphy. just behind Jason Krejza, who took 8 wickets at the same venue in November 2008 as a debutant in India. The Indian batting order, which scored 400 runs in the second innings, was only seriously disturbed by Murphy's bowling.

KL When Rahul flicked an off-spinner delivery straight at Murphy from close to the wicket, Murphy held on to claim his first Test wicket of his career. Rahul became Murphy's first-ever Test wicket.
Early on Day 2 of the match, the 22-year-old appeared to be the lone bowler capable of troubling the Indian hitters. When he finally found night watchman Ravichandran Ashwin on the bottom bunk, he made his breakthrough.
The rookie then rejected the the delivery slant of Murphy. After hitting Murphy for back-to-back sixes earlier, Mohammad Shami was removed by him, giving him his sixth wicket of the innings.
In his 47 overs, Murphy finished the innings with figures of 7/124. Only Krejza's 8/215 against India in 2008 surpasses his debut stats in India.
