Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., spent the night in the hospital after attending the State of the Union speech with other members of Congress the previous evening. According to his office, Fetterman was detained overnight for observation after reporting feeling dizzy on Wednesday.

According to his office, the senator is in excellent spirits and has been speaking with his family and colleagues.

According to a statement sent to journalists by Joe Calvello, Fetterman's communications director, he first felt ill while attending a Senate Democratic retreat. According to reports, the Library of Congress hosted that retreat.

Calvello reported that the man "left and summoned his staff, who came and picked him up and took him to the George Washington University Hospital."

A constant concern during Fetterman's ascent to the Senate has been his health. Last year, shortly before winning his primary election, he had a stroke. Fetterman said he had previously been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, an abnormal heart rhythm that can affect blood flow, and that led to the implantation of a pacemaker and defibrillator.

Doctors decided to do more tests and keep the senator in their care overnight despite the fact that "initial testing did not indicate signs of a fresh stroke," according to Calvello.
